Tomorrow’s Leaders Explore the Growing World of Delegated Authority at LMF Lunch & Learn

The next generation of London Market professionals came together this week for an engaging and thought-provoking Leaders of Tomorrow Lunch & Learn, exploring one of the most dynamic and rapidly evolving areas of the insurance industry — Delegated Authority.

On Tuesday 27 October, London Market Forums (LMF) welcomed an enthusiastic group of young insurance professionals to the latest gathering of its Leaders of Tomorrow (LOT) community, bringing together individuals from across the London insurance market for a lively lunchtime discussion, learning and valuable networking.

The session focused on Delegated Authority — its growing significance within the London Market, the opportunities it presents and the challenges that lie ahead.

With Managing General Agents (MGAs), Coverholders and delegated underwriting arrangements playing an increasingly important role in the distribution and underwriting of specialist insurance risks, the discussion provided an excellent opportunity for those in the early stages of their careers to gain a broader understanding of this important sector.

An Inspiring Conversation with Three Outstanding Market Professionals

At the heart of the lunchtime gathering was a lively and interactive discussion hosted by Roger Oldham, Founder and CEO of LMF, alongside three highly experienced and respected London Market professionals:

Rather than following a traditional conference format with formal presentations, the session was deliberately designed as an open and engaging conversation, allowing our panellists to share their knowledge, experiences and personal perspectives in a relaxed and accessible setting.

The discussion explored the relationships between insurers, brokers, MGAs and Coverholders, the importance of strong partnerships and effective oversight, and how the delegated authority landscape continues to evolve.

Importantly, attendees were encouraged to ask questions, contribute their own thoughts and engage directly with the panellists.

The enthusiasm, curiosity and willingness of our younger professionals to participate in meaningful Market conversations was one of the real highlights of the lunchtime gathering.

LMF extends a particularly warm thank you to Kate, Amy-Louise and Graeme, who were absolutely superb in sharing their experience, answering questions and helping to bring the world of Delegated Authority to life for our emerging Market talent.

Their generosity in giving their time, combined with their enthusiasm for supporting the next generation, exemplifies the collaborative spirit that makes the London insurance market such a special professional community.

Building Connections That Last a Career

Now in its second decade, the LMF Leaders of Tomorrow community continues to provide an important platform for professionals in the first ten years of their insurance careers.

Open to those working across insurers, brokers, MGAs, Coverholders, Lloyd’s and Market trade associations, the programme is designed around LMF’s three core principles: Learn, Network and Collaborate.

The informal Lunch & Learn format, including the opportunity to meet fellow professionals over a sandwich lunch, is deliberately designed to make it easier for younger Market participants to develop new relationships, exchange experiences and build their professional networks.

Over the past decade, many of those who have participated in LMF’s younger professional programmes have gone on to develop successful careers, with connections made through the community often becoming lasting professional relationships and friendships.

Investing in the Next Generation

Reflecting on the lunchtime gathering, Roger Oldham, Founder and CEO of London Market Forums, commented:

“One of the most rewarding aspects of running LMF is seeing the enthusiasm and energy that our younger Market professionals bring to these gatherings.

Our industry has an extraordinary wealth of experience and knowledge, but it’s vital that we create opportunities for that knowledge to be shared with the next generation.

I’m enormously grateful to Kate, Amy-Louise and Graeme for being such fantastic panellists. Their willingness to share their experiences so openly and generously is precisely what makes these sessions so valuable.

Events like our Leaders of Tomorrow Lunch & Learn are about much more than understanding a particular area of insurance. They’re about building confidence, encouraging curiosity, making connections and helping younger professionals recognise that they have an important voice in shaping the future of our Market.

I was particularly impressed by the level of engagement and the genuine interest shown by everyone who attended. It’s a wonderful reminder of the talent coming through our industry.”

Continuing the Conversation

LMF would also like to extend a special thank you to all the young professionals who joined us.

Their enthusiasm, thoughtful questions and active participation helped make the lunchtime gathering such a worthwhile occasion.

As LMF continues to develop its Leaders of Tomorrow programme, the organisation is keen to hear directly from younger professionals about the subjects, challenges and opportunities they would like to explore at future gatherings.

Whether it’s underwriting, claims, broking, technology, innovation, leadership or another aspect of the London Market, the LMF team welcomes suggestions and ideas for future sessions.

The message to our emerging Market talent is simple: get involved, be curious, build your network and make the most of the opportunities available to you.
